Smoking

Smoking and Related Eye Disorders

Smokers risk serious damage to the eye as well as severe and permanent vision loss.  The small blood vessels inside the eye can be damaged which can worsen conditions and/or create them.   Additionally, the eye suffers from poor nutrition distribution due to the vascular damage, which in turn, causes even further destruction.  There are several disorders associated with smoking and are as follows:

1.  Macular degeneration
2.  Cataracts
3.  Glaucoma (may be associated with progression of the disease)
4.  Irritation/Dry Eye
5.  Diabetic Retinopathy (may be associated with progression of the disease)

Our best advice to you regarding smoking is to quit. This will lessen your chances of developing serious eye disorders and preventable vision damage.
